General

Masseria Terre Rosse – Exceptional! Sleeps 8 – Large Salt Baths!

Background

Masseria Terre Rosse dates back to the 1800s, built at diverse times in the past with successive changes, taking its name from the colour of the local lands. The restoration phases were completed in 2014, respecting its architectural origins and using local traditional materials. The restoration works were completed tastefully with attention given to the finest details. The masseria has two distinct and autonomous units; each unit offering accommodation for four adults and/or children; sleeping a total of eight people comfortably.

A great deal of attention has been given to the environment in the development of Masseria Terre Rosse, with solar panels producing an ample amount of hot water and the photovoltaic system which produces electricity.

Grounds and Pool

Masseria Terre Rosse is centred on 6.5 hectares of land, populated with olive, fig & almond trees, typical Mediterranean flora; and a recently added fruit orchard.

Once you’ve arrived at the Masseria, you pass through the archway which connects the two Masseria units to a spacious piazza with 250° views of the surrounding landscape, the sea of olive trees and the distant Brindisi coastline. From the piazza, the two units share a bamboo covered pergola under which you could enjoy many a dining experience with friends and family. The pool is visible in the distance of the pergola, reached through a pathway through the ornamental plants and shrubbery, commonly found in the Mediterranean climate.

The piazza is also furnished with an antique oven for outside cooking purposes and a BBQ. The fruit orchard can supply you with fresh figs in the morning for breakfast and a number of other fruits direct from the fruit garden.

The swimming pool is in a position which enables its guests to enjoy the silence of the countryside in complete privacy. It is 17.5m long and 3.5m wide; perfect for the swimmer in you! To one side of the pool, there is a large sun area just one step below the water for those who prefer to lay in the coolness under the rays of the overhead sun. The swimming pool is treated with salt water for a more natural feeling on skin and hair.

Further details of indoors

Each unit is characteristically restored with 5m star vaulted ceilings and 3.5m pavilion and barreled styled ceilings. The heights are strategic for good ventilation and ideal indoor temperatures during the summer season.

First Unit

The first unit is comprised of two bedrooms, each with its own shower room. One of the bedrooms has a personal dressing room. Additionally, there is a sofa bed in the studio, annexed to the master bedroom. The main entrance hall with working fireplace serves as a dining area next to the well-equipped kitchen, dispensary and laundry room. For your comfort, the sitting room at the end of the house with fireplace is comfortable with sofa and armchairs. Each room has external access and is naturally light within.

Of particular interest is the flooring, referred to as coloured “cementine”; the cheerful colours are in keeping with the “masseria” farmhouses built in the 1800s.

External to the first unit, is a stone stairwell taking you to the roof terrace from where it is possible to view the countryside and the magnificent panorama, from all angles. An opportunity also to gaze also in to the starry nights and see the local towns in the distance.

Second Unit

The second unit is characterized by a its graceful spaciousness and gallery running mid through the palatial main room, dividing the master bedroom with the day room. The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and dressing room.

The second bedroom, twin or double, also has its private shower room. Equally the second unit has a kitchen with all necessary facilities and a fireplace in the main room. For an extra special dining experience, the unit offers a large stone terrace overlooking the ancient olive trees and pool area.

Facilities

Both units have wi-fi, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, (two in the first unit), washing machine, coffee machine, toaster, SKY television, alarm system, automatic electric gates.

Ceglie Messapica - the gastronomic capital of Puglia

Ceglie Messapica - the gastronomic capital of PugliaCeglie Messapica is a well hidden mystery on the edge of the Valle d’Itria, underestimated and often considered the poor sister of Cisternino. But it is anything but poor in history, culture and the number of restaurants per capita. Foodies delight as Ceglie Messapica is not only one of the restaurant capitals of Italy but

Sports & nature

Sports & nature

After a holiday of gastronomic dealings, you may be looking for somewhere to run off a few pounds.

I would suggest a stroll in the countryside but the lanes become long and winding, and we may never see you again!! Bike hire along the purpose built tracks of the "Acquedotto Puglese" pipelines may just do the trick. And if you get lost you just need turn back upon yourself and continue in your tracks in reverse order.

There are a number of gyms open in Ceglie and of course an outside tennis court. Other activities can be enjoyed by the sea, so please consult the Activities list in the Main Menu of the Home Page.

Nightlife info

There are a number of vogue bars and restaurants in Ceglie, with live music. Events will be shown on our Events Calendar which can be consulted in the side panel or Footer.

Nocturnal life is spent strolling the streets of Ceglie Messapica or enjoying the street shows and spectacles.

For late nighters, head to the beach where music is played into the long hours or you could pop along to the local, The Royal Oak Pub for a night cap?

Culture and history info

Culture and history info

According to legend, Ceglie was founded by the famous people of the Pelasgians, who have also been credited with the construction of the megalithic artifacts known as the "specchie".

Ceglie get its name from the Greek settlers that followed the people of Pelasgians, who named it Kailia or Ceglie. The city dedicated suburban sanctuaries to the Greek gods Apollo - today's church of San Rocco, Venus - on the hill Montevicoli and under the Basilica of St. Anne, fragments and remains were found of the temple of the goddess Latona mother of Apollo and Diana

History runs deep in Ceglie Messapica, and the Archeological Museum holds artefacts of importance inclusive of a sector dedicated to a demonstration of the defensive systems put in place by the Messapian cities of that period, that is to say their defensive walls, known locally as "Paretoni" and "Specchie".

Food is as culturally important as the history upon which it is founded. Many food items originate from Ceglie Messapica today as was the case many years afore.

Biscotto Cegliese, taralli, frise, pane, fresh pastas, cheeses, olive oils and so much more. But the best way to sample, is to experience Ceglie cooking first hand in one of the numerous restaurants.
