Puglia Soul Kitchen – Cooking Lessons
Fun for all the family!
If you are looking to entertain the family and also wish to experience real Pugliese country cooking then look no further. Hands-on cooking lessons where everyone gets to be involved making a full course meal, from anti-pasto to first and second courses and to complete it with a traditional sweet dish.
Or if cooking is not your vice but eating is, sit back in the shade of an old olive tree in the grounds of the typical trulli of Martina Franca and watch local dishes be prepared before your very eyes by the rest of the family.
All the ingredients are local and seasonal, chosen by our Chef extrordinaire, Lucrezia. Lucrezia will explain not only the ingredients used in the Menu of the Day and the cooking process but also its origins in the Pugliese lifestyle.
Lucrezia is also a Mum and understands the importance of a balanced meal offering the proteins, vitamins and minerals necessary for a growing family therefore menus are chosen to reflect how foods should be partnered and cooked to obtain taste, esthetic appeal and a balanced meal.
It is not by chance that the mediterranean diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world but it is not only healthy but good tasting and flavourful. The typical Pugliese dishes use vegetables, fruits, grains, fish and of course olive oil, considered important ingredients in reducing heart disease and cancer, as well as a reduced incidences of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. The produce is local “zero kms” distance from production to the table and hence guaranteed to be totally fresh.
Typically, locals purchase food daily and cook it the same day. Supermarkets exist but traditionally the Pugliese people prefer to buy vegetables and fruits from their favourite Greengrocer the “Fruttivendolo”, if not grow it themselves; the fish comes in to the Fish Monger’s early morning “Pescheria” or if you prefer you can select it as it comes out of the sea in harbour towns of monopoli, Savelletri or Torre Canne; grains are used to make fresh pasta, breads, pizza and foccacia or you can purchase from the Bread Shop “Panificio”. Equally dairy products and cold hams and meats can be bought from the Delicatessen or Salumeria.
